What is Bokeh?

I stumbled upon a new term this week, Bokeh. I'm not sure if it is something that I should have already known or not, but I do understand it now. I found it as I was researching the 35mm 1.8 lens. While viewing the different pictures that this type of lens renders I learned that what I thought was DOF, was actually Bokeh.
