Magazine Cover

For this assignment I had to design a magazine cover using the grid system. I designed it on a rule of thirds grid. A grid is used to keep all elements well balanced and organized on a page. The colors have to compliment each other and the fonts must fit well into the message that you're seeking to convey. Also, consider some contrast to add some excitement and to break up the mundane feel. I have found that nothing in advertising is random or because we like it. Every element must have the # 1 purpose of attracting your target audience. That is why you don't just start designing before you know who you are seeking to win over. Using hierarchy you guide the reader where you want them to go. That's why you will find certain elements that are larger and bolder than others. The # objective is to grab your target audience and pull them in to your design in the sea of all the other magazines on the newsstand. The target audience for the magazine I designed below was for people who lived in Alaska. I had to choose a subject that would immediately grab an Alaskans attention even in the midst of hundreds of magazines on a shelf. What better to use than an Alaskan Husky. The end result needed to have a true feel of a real magazine which is why I also included a bar code.
